Ercolano Publishing House is inspired by rapture through aesthetic experience. To discover

orre-encounter works that are little known, unjustly forgotten or yet unheard of: this is our proposal for times that are forcibly hurried and that, in favor of supposed practicality, sequester Beauty.

Our books almost always happen unexpectedly, like a volcano eruption. We dig up texts with immeasurable literary, historical and cultural value, and also contemporary publications that establish a dialog with this legacy. We embrace fiction and non-fiction, poetry and theater, as well as essays.

Thus, we dream awake, seeking to understand the present through the past tense, which is strangely

contemporary. Ultimately, we try to envision a future with books and through books. We believe, above all, in the power of the reading experience as a suspension of time, in the written word as a sensorial experience, something that feels ephemeral, but flies through eternity.

As words infuse the reader’s very perception of time, colors naturally come to life in their eyes. The book might not be eternal, but it is far from a fleeting memory; or at least, it should not be. A book is supposed to be slowly peeled, stripped, devoured. A book is meant for readers to get lost in, for the sheer pleasure of getting lost; it is not in the hands of readers to help them find an answer but, in fact, to help them find themselves.

“They had scattered through the rooms and were looking at the mosaics, the bronzes, the frescoes taken from the walls of the dead city, as their fancy led them; and when one of them found something especially interesting, he would call his companions with shouts of joy, to the great scandal of the taciturn English and the staid bourgeois, intent upon turning the leaves of their guide-books.”

(Théophile Gautier, Arria Marcella)

About the visual identity

Our publisher’s visual identity is anchored in the grandeur of Herculaneum, a Roman town preserved by ashes, to reintroduce the permanence and impact of the written word. The typography and the brand’s graphics are inspired by classical inscriptions and the architecture of that period. Our monograms and seals evoke sophistication, as well as the whole universe we wish to present. We celebrate materiality and the value of tradition, making each narrative a monument to memory and to art.
